II Kings: A jar of oil

2 Kings 4:1-7 (NKJV)

[1] A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”
[2] So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
[3] Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.
[4] And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”
[5] So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.
[6] Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased.
[7] Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”

I Kings: Hiram, the skilled craftman

I Kings 7:13-17 (NKJV)

[13] Now King Solomon sent and brought Huram from Tyre.
[14] He was the son of a widow from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a bronze worker; he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill in working with all kinds of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and did all his work.
[15] And he cast two pillars of bronze, each one eighteen cubits high, and a line of twelve cubits measured the circumference of each.
[16] Then he made two capitals of cast bronze, to set on the tops of the pillars. The height of one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits.
[17] He made a lattice network, with wreaths of chainwork, for the capitals which were on top of the pillars: seven chains for one capital and seven for the other capital.

II Samuel: Stabbed in an alley

II Samuel 3:22-28 (NKJV)

[22] At that moment the servants of David and Joab came from a raid and brought much spoil with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace.
[23] When Joab and all the troops that were with him had come, they told Joab, saying, “Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he sent him away, and he has gone in peace.”
[24] Then Joab came to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you; why is it that you sent him away, and he has already gone?
[25] Surely you realize that Abner the son of Ner came to deceive you, to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you are doing.”
[26] And when Joab had gone from David’s presence, he sent messengers after Abner, who brought him back from the well of Sirah. But David did not know it.
[27] Now when Abner had returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him privately, and there stabbed him in the stomach, so that he died for the blood of Asahel his brother.
[28] Afterward, when David heard it, he said, “My kingdom and I are guiltless before the Lord forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.

I Samuel: Save your life tonight

I Samuel 19:10-16 (NKJV)

[10] Then Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from Saul’s presence; and he drove the spear into the wall. So David fled and escaped that night.
[11] Saul also sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. And Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, “If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”
[12] So Michal let David down through a window. And he went and fled and escaped.
[13] And Michal took an image and laid it in the bed, put a cover of goats’ hair for his head, and covered it with clothes.
[14] So when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, “He is sick.”
[15] Then Saul sent the messengers back to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”
[16] And when the messengers had come in, there was the image in the bed, with a cover of goats’ hair for his head.

Ruth: Boaz invited Ruth to dinner

Ruth 2:14-17 (NKJV)
[14] Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, “Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied, and kept some back.
[15] And when she rose up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her.
[16] Also let grain from the bundles fall purposely for her; leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her.”
[17] So she gleaned in the field until evening, and beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
