Book of Lamentations~ Feelings of anguish and hope

Lamentations 3:49-57 (NKJV)

[49] My eyes flow and do not cease,
Without interruption,
[50] Till the Lord from heaven
Looks down and sees.
[51] My eyes bring suffering to my soul
Because of all the daughters of my city.
[52] My enemies without cause
Hunted me down like a bird.
[53] They silenced my life in the pit
And threw stones at me.
[54] The waters flowed over my head;
I said, “I am cut off!”
[55] I called on Your name, O Lord,
From the lowest pit.
[56] You have heard my voice:
“Do not hide Your ear
From my sighing, from my cry for help.”
[57] You drew near on the day I called on You,
And said, “Do not fear!”

Book of Jeremiah~ Fashioning a disaster

Jeremiah 18:7-11 (NKJV)

[7] The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it,
[8] if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it.
[9] And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it,
[10] if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.
[11] Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, “Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I am fashioning a disaster and devising a plan against you. Return now everyone from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.”

Book of Isaiah~ Luxuries of Life

Isaiah 3:16-24 (NKJV)

[16] Moreover the Lord says:
“Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,
And walk with outstretched necks
And wanton eyes,
Walking and mincing as they go,
Making a jingling with their feet,
[17] Therefore the Lord will strike with a scab
The crown of the head of the daughters of Zion,
And the Lord will uncover their secret parts.”
[18] In that day the Lord will take away the finery:
The jingling anklets, the scarves, and the crescents;
[19] The pendants, the bracelets, and the veils;
[20] The headdresses, the leg ornaments, and the headbands;
The perfume boxes, the charms,
[21] and the rings;
The nose jewels,
[22] the festal apparel, and the mantles;
The outer garments, the purses,
[23] and the mirrors;
The fine linen, the turbans, and the robes.
[24] And so it shall be:
Instead of a sweet smell there will be a stench;
Instead of a sash, a rope;
Instead of well-set hair, baldness;
Instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth;
And branding instead of beauty.

Book of Song of Solomon~ The voice of my Beloved!

Song of Solomon 2:8-14 (NKJV)

[8] The voice of my beloved!
Behold, he comes
Leaping upon the mountains,
Skipping upon the hills.
[9] My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he stands behind our wall;
He is looking through the windows,
Gazing through the lattice.
[10] My beloved spoke, and said to me:
“Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away.
[11] For lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
[12] The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.
[13] The fig tree puts forth her green figs,
And the vines with the tender grapes
Give a good smell.
Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away!
[14] “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret places of the cliff,
Let me see your face,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your face is lovely.”

Book of Ecclesiastes: A time to Love, and a time to hate

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NKJV)

[1] To everything there is a season,

    A time for every purpose under heaven:

[2 A time to be born,

    And a time to die;

    A time to plant,

    And a time to pluck what is planted;

[3] A time to kill,

     And a time to heal;

     A time to break down,

     And a time to build up;

[4] A time to weep,

     And a time to laugh;

     A time to mourn,

    And a time to dance;

[5] A time to cast away stones,

     And a time to gather stones;

     A time to embrace,

    And a time to refrain from embracing;

[6] A time to gain,

     And a time to lose;

     A time to keep,

    And a time to throw away;

[7] A time to tear,

     And a time to sew;

     A time to keep silence,

    And a time to speak;

[8] A time to love,

     And a time to hate;

     A time of war,

    And a time of peace.
